Homemade Taco Seasoning (1 Packet Equivalent)

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Sweet paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes
  • ¾ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon Onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Oregano Mexican oregano is best if you have it
  • ¼ teaspoon Black pepper
  • pinch of sugar - optional

Instructions

  • Measure all spices into a small cup or bowl and whisk together to combine.
    1 tablespoon Chili powder, 1 teaspoon Ground cumin, 1 teaspoon Sweet paprika, ¼ teaspoon Crushed red pepper flakes, ¾ teaspoon Salt, ½ teaspoon Garlic powder, ½ teaspoon Onion powder, ¼ teaspoon Oregano, ¼ teaspoon Black pepper, pinch of sugar - optional
  • To keep for later, place in a covered airtight container. A small jar works great. Store in a cool dark area for up to 6 months.
  • To flavor taco meat, brown the meat first and remove any excess grease by blotting with a paper towel. Add seasoning and ⅓ cup water. mix well, reduce heat to low and simmer 2 to 3 minutes to reduce liquid. This recipe will season one pound of ground beef, chicken, or turkey and is the equivalent of one store bought packet of taco seasoning.
