When I want to feel all classy and elegant, I find that holding a martini glass will instantly glam me up! That's why I played with the flavors of a classic Midori sour to make this martini.

It's fruity, sweet and has that little bit of "different" we all need sometimes to ensure we're not being too predictable.

Most importantly, I kept the ingredients simple and easy, because who wants to spend all day mixing when you could be sipping - am I right?

    What is Midori?

Midori is a bright green, melon-flavored liqueur. It's made with muskmelons and yubari melons, giving it a sweet, fruity taste. First introduced in the 1970s, it became popular in cocktails for its vibrant color and smooth, slightly citrusy flavor. While it's often mixed into fun, tropical drinks, it also works well in simpler cocktails like this Midori Sour Martini.

    Midori Sour Recipe Ingredients

    • Midori liqueur
    • Vodka
    • Lime wedge
    • Sparkling lemonade or lemon-lime soda
    • Slice of lemon and cherry, for garnish

How to make this Midori Sour Martini

Start with Midori and vodka. Add to a cocktail shaker with a squeeze of lime. Then add your mixer, a lemon-lime soda like Sprite works well. I used lemonade flavored sparkling water, which was great. Because Midori is so sweet, it helps to have some citrusy "sour" to help balance it out. Squirt would be another good choice. You get the idea right? Try a couple different beverages here to see how you like it.

Shake everything with some ice and pour into a martini glass. Garnish as desired; I like a lemon slice and cherry.

Regarding cherries: a simple maraschino cherry will do, but I recently tried a recipe for homemade Amarena cherries which I completely loved. I never knew it would be so easy to make my own cocktail cherries! These are what I used to garnish this drink.

    Melon Martini Tips and Variations

This is a sweet martini, and you can adjust proportions as needed to get the flavor you want. If you want more sour taste, squeeze a little more lime juice or also add a squeeze of lemon into the mix. As mentioned above, your choice of mixer can also impact the sweetness, so keep that in mind.

The festive green color makes this martini a great drink to spread a little holiday cheer, but feel free to enjoy it all year long!
