If you have an air fryer, using it to make French fries is a must! It’s the best way I have found to get perfectly even cooked fries every time. It means I can make an easy side that is always welcomed at the table!
Now I expanded that technique to include sweet potato fries. I wasn’t sure my “meat and potatoes” guy would be okay with this plan, but it turns out he loves them.
By always using the same brand (Alexia) of sweet potato fries and cooking them in the air fryer, I produce consistent results and deliver fries with more health benefits and all the delicious taste!
Why You Will Love These Fries
Sweet potatoes, known for their nutritional benefits, take center stage in this recipe. They are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, making them a guilt-free choice for snacking.
The air fryer method ensures a perfectly crisp exterior while retaining the natural sweetness and tender texture of the sweet potatoes.
Whether you're aiming for a savory snack or a side dish with a difference, these sweet potato fries hit all the right notes.
Ingredients Needed
That's right, you only need some frozen sweet potato fries. You also have the option to season after cooking with salt and/or pepper, but I typically don't even bother. They are already seasoned with sea salt and excellent as-is!

How to Make Alexia Sweet Potato Fries in the Air Fryer
The air fryer makes this so easy! Simply add the sweet potato fries in a single layer to your air fryer basket. I do not add any additional oil or seasonings before cooking.
Air fry at 400F for 12 to 15 minutes. Flip or shake the fries a little about halfway through the cooking cycle to promote even browning.
When done, the fries will be piping hot with soft centers and crispy edges. Season lightly with salt and/or pepper, to taste.
💭Tip: remember, air fryers will vary slightly by style and brand. Use these instructions as a guide and adjust according to your air fryer’s performance.
Sweet Potato Fries Serving Suggestions
These sweet potato fries shine on their own, but you can elevate your snacking experience with some creative dipping sauces. Consider options like garlic aioli, sriracha mayo, or a classic ketchup for a delightful twist.
Substitutions and Variations
Feel free to customize this recipe to suit your taste preferences. Experiment with different seasoning blends, such as smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, or even cinnamon, for a unique flavor profile.
Additionally, if you prefer a homemade touch, you can cut sweet potatoes into thin strips instead of using pre-packaged fries. Toss the strips in olive oil and watch the cooking time for these.
Storage
If you happen to have leftovers (highly unlikely!), store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To regain their crispiness, reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! My favorite is Alexia and all my testing was done using that brand. However, feel free to try other brands you enjoy and use this recipe as a starting point for your timing.
All fries are best enjoyed fresh, but sometimes the timing gets awkward. I’ve had situations where my food was competing for air fryer time. (air fried stuffed chicken anyone?) In that case, I cook the sweet potato fries and then place them in a warm oven while the rest of the food cooks, then re-crisp the fries in the air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes. It works great since most meat benefits from a few minutes of rest time anyway. 😁
I’ve tested with the straight cut fries, as well as the Alexia crinkle cut and waffle fries. All are similar, although the waffle fries tend to burn faster so I recommend checking them at the 12-minute mark. The crinkle fries seem to need the full 15 minutes of cooking time.
Definitely! Sweet potatoes are high in nutrients and antioxidants, making them a nutritional powerhouse. One of the key qualities of the sweet potato is that it has a low glycemic index, which means that when you eat it, the complex carbs produce a steady release of glucose into the bloodstream, offering sustained energy without causing rapid spikes in blood sugar. By contrast, white potatoes have a very high glycemic index and can raise blood sugar even more than a donut! (ama-assn.org)
