    Why You'll Love this Recipe

The chewy rich goodness of brownies, in a portable cookie form. I'm already sold with that, but then you add in some chopped up Whoppers. It brings that special crunch and flavor that only malted milk balls have. It's a great way to use up leftover Halloween candy, because the quantity of milk balls doesn't have to be exact.

Remember this recipe at Easter time too. Those cute malted milk ball eggs can just as easily be chopped up to use in cookies!

    Ingredients Needed

Ingredients: brownie mix, malted milk balls, eggs, vanilla, butter, and flour.

How to Make these Chocolate Brownie and Malted Milk Ball Cookies

Just like when I make my brownie crinkle cookies, I start with a brownie mix for a super simple shortcut.

Add a little flour to the box mix, then combine with eggs, melted butter, and a little vanilla to make a thick dough.

Thick dough made from the brownie mix.

Add in about a cup of chopped candy. I used leftover Whoppers Halloween candy, and it was about 50 to 60 malted milk balls.

Adding chopped malted milk balls to the chocolate cookie dough.

Use a medium cookie scoop to transfer the dough to a parchment lined cookie sheet. Leave about 2 inches between the cookies to allow them to spread out.

Portions of cookie dough on a baking sheet.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 350F. The cookies will look dry on the edges and still a little soft in the middle. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheet for at least 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to finish cooling.

    Serving Suggestions

These cookies are delightful on their own, but they also make a fantastic accompaniment to a glass of cold milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Especially if they're right from the oven and warm - yum!

I also love to have one with a hot cup of coffee or tea for a cozy, indulgent treat.

    Substitutions and Variations

Experiment with different flavors of brownie mix for a unique twist.

Swap Whoppers for other malted milk ball candies or mix in your favorite chopped nuts for added texture.

For a more gooey center, underbake the cookies slightly and let them cool on the baking sheet.

    Storage

Store these cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

For longer storage, freeze the cookies in a single layer before transferring them to a freezer bag. They can be kept in the freezer for up to three months.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, these cookies can be baked ahead of time and stored in an airtight container until ready to serve.

    Ingredients

    • 1 box 18 to 18.4 ounce brownie mix
    • ¼ cup flour
    • 2 eggs large
    • ¼ cup butter melted
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup malted milk ball candy chopped

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 375F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    • Add the brownie mix and flour to a large bowl. Whisk to break up any lumps and evenly distribute the flour throughout the mix.
      1 box, ¼ cup flour
    • Add the eggs, melted butter, and vanilla to the bowl and mix well to make a thick dough. Fold in the chopped malted milk balls until just combined.
2 eggs, ¼ cup butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 cup malted milk ball candy
    • Use a medium cookie scoop to form even sized balls of dough. Place the balls of dough on the baking sheet, leaving at least 2 inches in between.
    • Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes at 375F. Remove the baking sheet and let the cookies cool on the pan for 10 more minutes before removing to a wire rack to finish cooling.

    Notes

I bake these for 10 minutes to get a softer, more brownie-like middle. Baking a minute or two longer will result in a firmer cookie.

How do I add malt powder to the cookie mix without making them dry?

This recipe does not add malt powder, rather I crush up Whoppers malted milk balls to provide that malt flavor. 🙂

So I don't like Malted Milk Balls and neither do my kids, so each year after halloween we have a stash of them from their candy baskets. I hate throwing them out.
So I thought this year, I'd turn them into something. I found this cookie recipe and as I had to make cookies for a school bake sale it seemed perfect!!
They came out so well. They looked exactly like yours!!! And they tasted great (even for someone who isn't a whooper fan!)
They were a massive hit at the bake sale yesterday so THANK YOU 🙂
The instructions were really easy to follow and I followed your tip for under baking slightly to get a soft center 🙂

So glad I could help. We also agree that the leftover Whoppers taste much better in these cookies!

I made these cookies this weekend and they were a huge hit! The combination of chocolate brownie mix, malted milk balls and milk chocolate chips was pure genius. Such a clever use of brownie mix for an easy baked good.
