I love game day, and pigs in a blanket are one of my favorite ways to have a "main dish" on the table without actually making a main dish. They're small, but somehow still satisfying enough to hold their own next to whatever chips and dips I'm serving that day.
They're easy and fast, and so very dippable that any game day spread without them seems a little empty. Just assemble, bake for 15 minutes, and serve.
And by the way, I did try making these in the air fryer once. That was a mistake. The dough expanded into every open crevice of the basket, and I learned the hard way that these need a solid surface underneath them while they bake. Lesson learned, sheet pan it is.

Ingredients needed for pigs in a blanket
One 8 oz can of crescent roll dough (8 rolls) 12 to 14 oz Lil Smokies sausages
That's it. Two ingredients, and somehow they disappear off the plate faster than almost anything else I make for game day.

How to make pigs in a blanket
Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles along the perforations. Use a knife or a pizza cutter to slice each triangle lengthwise into thirds, so you end up with long, thin triangles instead of the original wide ones.

Place a cocktail sausage at the slightly wider edge of each thin triangle. Roll it all the way up the length of the dough, wrapping the dough around the sausage as you go.
Set each wrapped sausage on a prepared baking sheet. You can lightly grease it with cooking spray, or use parchment paper. Leave a little space between the bites so the dough has room to expand while it bakes.

Bake at 375°F for 12 to 15 minutes, until the dough is cooked through and golden brown.
Serving suggestions and variations
Serve them with ketchup, mustard, or whatever dipping sauce your family likes best.
If you want to dress these up, you can wrap other small items in with the sausage before rolling. You can also brush a little egg white over the tops and sprinkle on some seasoning before baking, which gives them a nicer finish and a little extra flavor.

My personal favorite combination is tucking a tiny dill pickle in with the sausage, brushing the dough with egg wash, and sprinkling Everything Bagel Seasoning on top before baking. Dipped in yellow mustard, it's truly wonderful.
Storage
These are best fresh out of the oven, but leftovers will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days. Reheat them in the oven or air fryer so the dough stays crisp instead of going soft in the microwave.
