Tis the season! The eggnog season, that is!
Eggnog only shows up in the grocery stores for a couple months out of the year, so it seems like we need a few ways to enjoy this lovely holiday drink while we have it, don’t you think?
This time, I started with a White Russian and modified it to use eggnog. I thought it would be a simple substitution for heavy cream, but it wasn’t. So be sure to follow along to see where this Eggnog White Russian varies from the original.

Why I love this recipe
I must admit, eggnog was never a big thing with me. My son loves it, so I always got some for him, every holiday season. But it was always a take-it-or-leave-it thing for me.
But using it to make cocktails was a game changer! It’s delicious as an Eggnog and Baileys cocktail, so I knew I wanted to try some more variations.
Turns out, eggnog in a White Russian is a delicious combination!

How to make an Eggnog White Russian
This is the same concept as a classic White Russian: vodka, Kahlua, and heavy cream.
At first, I just substituted the heavy cream with eggnog. I found that the vodka taste was just too strong when I did this.
So I tried changing the proportions of vodka and Kahlua, but none seemed quite right.
I finally decided to try a flavored vodka. And I used one of my favorites: whipped vodka. It has the sweet flavor and scent of whipped cream. Can’t go wrong there!
That choice was the right one. The whipped flavor somehow gives more balance to the cocktail which in the classic version the heavy cream does on its own.

To make the cocktail, simply add whipped vodka, Kahlua, and eggnog to an ice-filled glass.
Stir and serve. 😀
A lighter version
Let’s be honest, eggnog is not the most waistline friendly drink out there, now is it? Want to lighten things up? I found a great solution!
Try almondmilk nog.
I was skeptical when I saw this at the grocery store, but I’m always game to try something new. And I’m delighted with it!
It’s both dairy-free and egg-free, and therefore vegan.
The liquid is thinner than actual eggnog of course, but so will you be if you drink it! Only 70 calories in a half-cup serving, vs 180 calories for regular eggnog. There’s a difference I can get behind!
And the taste? Very good!
Remember, I am not a huge “eggnog person” so if you are, you might not find it up to your standards. But for me, it made a delicious cocktail with a lot less guilt that it would otherwise have!
