Why You Will Love This Recipe
Let’s start with the all-important word: easy. Just mix 3 ingredients (plus water) in a freezer-safe container. Cover and freeze overnight, and by the next day your slush is ready to scoop.
You’ll also love the taste. It’s light and sweet, with just enough citrus-y lime to help quench your thirst. Its velvety texture and frosty chill make it a perfect choice for those hot summer days.
It does contain rum but it’s not very strong. It gives you the flexibility to adjust at serving time if desired. 😀

How to Make this Frozen Daiquiri Slush
This recipe dates back to my college days, and in fact the recipe card I have for it is written in my roommate’s handwriting. It’s about as easy as it gets!
Start with a can of frozen limeade concentrate. Empty the contents into a freezer-safe container. I use plastic Ziploc containers which work perfectly.
Hang on to that empty limeade can and use it to measure the other ingredients. (One less thing to wash!)
Add one can of water and one can of lemon-lime soda. I’ve used 7-Up and Sprite, both regular and sugar-free versions with success.
The last ingredient is ½ a can of rum. Regular white rum works just fine here.

Stir everything together to mix, then cover. Place in the freezer for about 8 hours or overnight.
The mixture will freeze into crystals, but not solid. The alcohol prevents it from fully freezing into an ice block. Instead, the mix is easy to remove with a spoon or ice cream scoop.
Scoop your slush into a glass, at least half full. Then top with more lemon-lime soda and serve!
Serving Suggestions and Storage
This slush is a crowd-pleaser for sure! Or you can just enjoy it on a lazy afternoon hanging out on the deck.
It keeps for a few months in the freezer, so you can have it on hand for whenever a slushie emergency might strike!
Recipe FAQs
I’ve used regular white rum and also lime-flavored rum, both are excellent. I’d like to try coconut rum, that might be my next batch. Feel free to experiment with whatever flavor you have on hand!
As you can see in my pictures, I’ve used a lowball/rocks glass, as well as a stemmed cocktail glass which is a really fun way to serve it. Makes me feel all "fancy" LOL.
But, since this recipe originated in college, I think I need to show how we actually served it back then. Yep, red Solo cup, in all its glory. It’s just as delicious, no matter what glass you use!
More Refreshing Ways to Beat the Heat
When you need to cool down, try some prickly pear lemonade. It’s gorgeous color and sweet taste will satisfy! And you could use it to make a pink gin and lemonade for a new twist on a favorite!
