Why You Will Love This Recipe

Let's start with the spooktacular presentation. Making a spider web on the dip makes it so eye-catching and perfectly on theme for Halloween. Sure to be a conversation starter!

But it's also packed with healthy goodness thanks to the black beans, which helps to keep things healthy.

Best of all, it's so easy to make! Simply combine 4 ingredients and bake it to warm through. Decorate with a spider web and serve!

    Ingredients Needed

Ingredients: sour cream, refried black beans, shredded cheese, taco seasoning, salsa.

How to make this Halloween Bean Dip

Preheat your oven to 375F and spray a 9-inch pie plate with cooking spray.

In a small bowl, mix refried black beans with salsa, shredded cheese, and taco seasoning. Spread the mixture into the prepared pie plate.

bean dip mixture spread into a pie plate.

Bake the bean dip, uncovered, for 20 to 25 minutes. The mixture should be slightly bubbly on the edges and heated through.

Assemble a pastry bag with a medium round tip (I used a Wilton #8) and add sour cream. Form a spider web on top of the bean dip by drawing concentric circles, then intersecting lines to make a web shape.

Drawing intersecting lines through the dip to form a spider web appearance.

In theory, you could drag a toothpick or knife through the lines to make the web, but I find just making the lines with the pastry bag much easier.

💭Tip: if you don't have a pastry bag, use a plastic sandwich bag with a hole cut in the corner to pipe the sour cream in place.

Like snowflakes, no 2 spider webs are the same so embrace any imperfections as part of the creative process. 😁

You can also cut up a few black olives to make edible spiders if you'd like to enhance the dip even more. 🕷️

    Serving Suggestions

Serve your Spider Web Black Bean Dip with an assortment of dippable options such as tortilla chips, corn chips, carrot sticks, celery, or cucumber slices. I especially like to offer slices of orange bell pepper, to keep the colors within the theme of the season.

The creamy, savory dip pairs wonderfully with the crunchy textures of chips and the refreshing crispness of veggies.

    Substitutions and Variations

To make this dip vegan, substitute the sour cream and cheese with vegan alternatives.

For a full-on carnivore version, add some cooked and crumbled chorizo or ground beef to the mixture. This would make a very hearty dip!

    Storage

Leftover dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

    Recipe FAQs

Can I make this dip spicy?

There are several ways to spice up this bean dip. I used medium salsa, you could use a hot salsa to spice it up some. You can also add chopped jalapeno peppers, additional taco seasoning, or other hot sauce as desired.

In our street each year we have different houses doing different foods and as the kids trick or treat, the parents will stop along the way for a chat and something to eat. It helps slow the kids down and they get to run about in the yard with their friends and eat some of their candy.

This year I am on appetizers. I am not a great cook and lots of it will be storebought, but I thought this looked fun so I made it yesterday as a trial run. It was a big hit with my kids! At first they weren't sure about the color, but they tasted it and loved it.

I didn't do the spider web yesterday I just drizzled over the sour cream and it was good. Can't wait to make it on halloween. Thank you
