I've made several recipes here where I have referenced using a berry sauce when serving, so I decided it is time to make my favorite sauce its own recipe.

I like to make my easy berry sauce from frozen berries. Once you try this, I think you will too!

Only 2 ingredients needed and a couple minutes on the stovetop. Let it cool as desired - you can serve it warm or cold, as you prefer.

Cheesecakes, pancakes, waffles.... so many yummy foods will taste even better when you add this easy berry sauce on top!

    Ingredients needed

The beauty of this recipe is: you only need 2 ingredients! One is frozen, one is kept in the pantry. Easy ingredients to have on hand for "just in case". Because let's face it, there are plenty of times when we want to make things that we're in the mood for, and are only limited by what we have in stock. Here's what you need:

    • Frozen berries
    • Jam
ingredients = frozen berries and jam, on a cutting board

Can it get any simpler? I think not!

How to make berry sauce from frozen berries

This sauce is so easy. Start by warming the jam in a small saucepan. Then add in the frozen berries. I like to cut up the berries if they are whole, especially with strawberries since they can be so big. My favorite is when I find sliced frozen strawberries - it makes this even easier!

frozen berries cooking in saucepan to make berry sauce.

If using raspberries, no need to cut up, they will break down very quickly once heated.

Use a spatula to break up any frozen-together chunks and spread the mixture evenly in the pan. Then, use medium heat to bring this to a boil, and then boil for one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and allow to cool.

You can leave the sauce as-is if you like it a little chunky. Or, use an immersion blender to break up any chunks and make a smoother sauce.

What to serve with this berry sauce

This sweet sauce works on so many things. I love to use raspberry sauce on a Dutch Baby, and strawberry sauce on fruit crepes. But of course these can be interchanged. It works great on regular pancakes or waffles as well.

But in addition to breakfast, there's also dessert. This sauce is wonderful on a no-bake cheesecake, or on a chocolate mug cake. We recently tried it on brownies with ice cream and it was pretty amazing! And check out how I made heart-shaped meringue shells with raspberry sauce - a winner for Valentine's day or any other special occasion.

    Variations/tips/FAQs

Can any berry be used for this sauce?

I have made this sauce many times with strawberries and raspberries. I am also confident that a mixed berry sauce would be yummy! I haven't tried any other flavors, but if you do I'd love to hear how it turned out!

Can I mix and match flavors of jam and berries?

Absolutely, I do this all the time! Strawberry jam with raspberries or raspberry jam with strawberries - it all works!

How can I make a keto-friendly berry sauce?

You can use a sugar-free jam to make this sauce much more keto friendly. Check out my keto raspberry sauce for full directions.

Can I use fresh berries for this sauce?

Fresh berries work great, or even a combination of fresh and frozen. Very useful when you have just a few strawberries that are "past their prime" - just make them into sauce! Add frozen berries as well, and once cooked you won't know which was fresh and which frozen!

This sauce is easy and delicious!
