February 5 of every year is World Nutella Day. This is the day when we all celebrate the deliciously sweet and irresistible spread made of chocolate and hazelnut. And this year, I decided to celebrate with an adult beverage: a Nutella Martini.
Ingredients needed
It’s a short list of ingredients, and each is important:
- Vodka
- Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur)
- Nutella
- Cream or milk
- Optional for garnish: more Nutella, chopped hazelnuts, or crushed graham crackers
How to make this Nutella Martini
Like most cocktails, you mix all the ingredients together and then pour into a glass. But for this one, the Nutella poses a special challenge. Simply adding this to a cocktail shaker and mixing with ice is not going to result in a smooth liquid. The Nutella just doesn’t want to incorporate. You’ll be standing and shaking for a LOOOOONG time with that method.
So, I blend. Just place all the ingredients in a blender and give it a good blitz. Since a single serving is a small quantity, I use my immersion blender with its included jar. Presto, a beautiful mix.
Now, you still need to cool it down. You can add ice to the blender and give it a quick mix (without making a slushie…). If you do this, you have to plan for a way to strain the cocktail into the glass without the ice.
Or you can transfer into a cocktail shaker, shake with ice and then strain into a glass.
Because of this blending step, this is a cocktail that would work really well to make ahead in a batch, and then just slip the blender jar in the fridge. Let the fridge do the cooling instead of using ice. When it’s time to serve, just give the blender a quick whirl (the liquids do settle a little) and pour away!
Garnish your martini
Since you’ve mixed up what basically looks like chocolate milk, be sure to dress up your drink a little. A martini glass is perfect and adding a garnish on the rim is so fun!

Start by rimming the glass with Nutella then dip that rim in either crushed graham crackers or finely chopped hazelnuts. I’ve tried and like both. It’s possible that I have been known to lick every morsel from the edge of the glass once the liquid is gone. Don’t feel bad if you get the same urge. 😀
Make a keto Nutella martini
If you happen to have some sugar free cocoa hazelnut spread on hand, try using it to make this drink. Use heavy cream for the dairy and you will have a keto friendly dessert drink. You’re welcome!

This Nutella Martini makes a lovely dessert cocktail and a perfect way to celebrate World Nutella Day!
