Overnight oats are such an easy grab and go breakfast. I love to make a couple at a time to meal prep during the week. It ensures I will have a great breakfast at my fingertips when I want it, and one that is healthy and satisfying.
Using frozen fruit layered in overnight oats is a terrific way to flavor it. I find it so convenient to have frozen berries on hand, no worries about them spoiling quickly like they do when fresh.
When I get hungry in the morning, I simply need to grab my jar of layered overnight oats and stir up the (formerly) frozen fruit from the bottom. Instant breakfast!

Why I love these frozen berry overnight oats
Easy, convenient, delicious! The sweet taste of berries is something I never grow tired of. Using them in overnight oats delivers their delicious taste in every bite.
I formerly made overnight oats with Biscoff spread (so yummy!) and peanut butter. This recipe is a fruity variation. And think of all the frozen fruit possibilities! I could have overnight oats every day with different flavors if I wanted!
And speaking of every day, these are good in the fridge for up to 5 days. Which is fantastic for meal prepping your breakfast for the work week!

How to make Overnight Oats with Frozen Fruit
It starts with the frozen fruit. You want to let it thaw a little bit so you can mash it. How much you mash is up to you.
At minimum, you want the fruit to be a little compressed to make room in the jar for other ingredients. If you like things really smooth, you can keep mashing to completely puree the fruit.

Once the fruit/berries are to your liking, simply add the rest of the ingredients to the jar. Add them in this specific order: maple syrup, vanilla extract, rolled oats, chia seeds, and almond milk.
Do not stir.
Cover and refrigerate the oats at least overnight, or up to 5 days.
In the morning, simply open the jar and stir the layers together. Then enjoy.
You might find yourself wanting more sweetener, depending upon what kind of frozen fruit you use. Of my two favorites, the mix including sweet cherries is plenty sweet with the quantities listed. When I use just mixed berries, it is less sweet but I still eat it as-is.
You can add a little sweetener while stirring if needed, and once you make the oats a few times, you'll figure out how much sweetener your taste buds want. 😁
Note: the jars shown are 12.5 ounce Weck tulip jars. A pint jar (16 ounce) would work also. Just make sure it has a lid, especially if you plan to transport.
Sula’s Tips/FAQ
I’ve tried it both ways and these overnight oats are delicious whether the fruit is layered on the top or on the bottom. However, when adding the fruit to the top you need to first thaw it and mash it a little, which means another dirty bowl or whatever you use. So layered on the bottom works better for me, I can thaw and smash right in the jar everything else is going into!
This could probably be fixed by just using a larger jar, but if you want to tuck it in your bag to go to work that could get bulky. Plus, I have a tendency to fill whatever container I’m using to the very top, so I like to stick with a smaller container to keep the portions in control LOL.
Any milk will work: dairy milk, oat milk, etc. I use almond milk as that is just the default in my pantry. 😁
You can use water to make overnight oats but to achieve the creaminess that makes them enjoyable, I recommend you also add some yogurt. For ½ cup rolled oats, use ½ cup water and ¼ cup yogurt. Stir these together before adding to the jar.

Finally a recipe that uses frozen fruit! I love overnight oats but never have time to thaw frozen fruit. Problem solved and this recipe is amazing!

It's so hard to keep fresh berries around, they are either gone too fast or tehy go bad too quickly. Frozen fruit is much easier to deal with!
